Supported languages
Torquex ships its own interface already translated for several languages. These are the theme’s UI-string translations — the wording of the theme’s own controls and messages, such as button labels, badges, tab names, and selector labels. They are not your catalog: translating your product, collection, and page content is a separate step (see below).
Bundled storefront locales
Section titled “Bundled storefront locales”Torquex bundles translated theme text for the following languages:
- English (default)
- Arabic
- German
- Spanish
- French
- Italian
English is the default locale. When a shopper views your store in any of the other bundled languages, Torquex automatically serves that language’s translated interface text — provided you have published the language in Shopify admin.
If you publish a language Torquex does not bundle (for example Portuguese), Shopify falls back to English for any theme strings until you supply translations for them.
How the storefront language is chosen
Section titled “How the storefront language is chosen”The languages available to shoppers are the ones you publish in Shopify admin under Settings → Languages — not something configured in the theme. Add and publish a language there, and the storefront language follows your published languages. The footer Language selector then appears automatically so customers can switch between them, while the header Language selector must be turned on via the Header section’s Show language selector setting (off by default). Both are gated on more than one published language — with a single language, neither shows.
Translating your product content is separate
Section titled “Translating your product content is separate”The bundled locales cover the theme’s own UI strings only. Your product titles, descriptions, collection names, page and blog copy, and metafield values are store data, and you translate them separately with Shopify’s free Translate & Adapt app. Adding a language in Settings → Languages makes it available to shoppers; Translate & Adapt is what fills in the translated content for it.
For the full language, theme-text editing, and right-to-left workflow — including the bundled locale file names and the language and country/currency selectors — see Translations & internationalization.
