Motion is a single dial over the whole theme rather than a switch. Full runs every gesture at its designed length. Subtle keeps all the same gestures but runs them at about 60% of that length, which is the setting to reach for when the store feels slow rather than considered. None removes decorative motion entirely. Nothing fades, slides, or reveals, and the last four settings above disappear from the panel because there is nothing left for them to time.

Reveal stagger is what makes a row of four product cards read as a row rather than four separate arrivals. Larger values are more theatrical, and they add noticeable delay to the last item in a long group. Setting it to 0 removes the effect without removing the reveal itself.

Smooth scrolling and the hover zoom are both desktop-pointer behaviors. Neither has any effect on a phone, where the browser’s own scrolling and the absence of a hover state already decide the answer.

Note

Whatever you choose here, Lapels always honors the visitor’s operating-system reduced-motion preference. A visitor who has asked their device to reduce motion gets no reveals, no smooth scrolling, no hover zoom, and no decorative animation, even on Full. Essential feedback is never removed, such as a loading state or a control that changes as you press it. These settings decide what everyone else sees.

The button is 48px square, so any radius from 24px up draws it as a circle. The 50px default is a circle, and 0 gives a hard square to match a store set on sharp corners.

It stays out of the way until the visitor is roughly a screen down the page, then appears in the corner. It is a real link to the top of the page’s main content, not a decoration. Pressing it moves the page and puts keyboard focus back at the start of the content, so a keyboard visitor carries on from the top rather than from a floating link deep in the document.

With Motion set to None, or for a visitor who has asked for reduced motion, the return is instant instead of eased. The button itself still works.

Tip

The button sits over your content, so give it a scheme with real contrast against the sections it will float above. The dark scheme-night default reads well on the ivory grounds Lapels uses most. Check it against a full-bleed image section too, since that is where a light button disappears.
