Found under Theme settings → Navigation. One setting lives here. It belongs here rather than on the header, because a shopper opens one menu after another in the same strip of screen. The crop has to be one figure for all of them.

Where this setting shows up

A drop-down menu in Lapels can show its links as plain labels or as image cards. Cards are switched on per menu, not globally: open Header → the menu item’s Mega menu block, where Show an image on each link is on by default. This setting then decides what shape those cards are cut to.

Two things it does not affect:

• Promotion images in the same panel. A mega menu can carry up to two promotions with their own uploaded images, and those keep their own framing.
• Menus with a third level. A menu item whose children have children of their own is drawn as titled columns of links instead, and it ignores the card option entirely. A picture there would push its own list off the bottom of the panel.

Below 960px the header becomes a drawer and the card images are not drawn at all, so this is a desktop setting in practice.

Choosing a ratio

Each card borrows its picture from whatever the link points at. That is a collection’s image, or failing that its first product’s, a product’s featured image, or an article’s image. You are not uploading anything for this slot, so you fill the menu by curating collections rather than by maintaining a parallel set of menu images.

That is worth keeping in mind when you pick a shape. A tall crop taken from a wide source has less of the original file to work with and can look softer than the rest of the panel. If your collection images are landscape, Landscape (4:3) or Square (1:1) will hold up better than Tall (2:3). A link pointing at a page or a plain URL has no image to borrow and falls back to the theme’s placeholder.

Tip

Portrait (4:5) is the theme’s default because it matches the product card ratio Lapels ships with, so a menu panel and the collection grid it opens onto read as one system. If you change the card shape under Product cards, consider matching it here.
