FAQ
Where do storefront filters and star ratings come from?
Section titled “Where do storefront filters and star ratings come from?”Storefront filters come from Shopify’s own free Search & Discovery app, and Lapels renders whatever you configure there. The optional star rating on a product card reads Shopify’s standard rating metafield, so it needs a review app to write one.
Which languages does Lapels ship with?
Section titled “Which languages does Lapels ship with?”English plus 13 translations: French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Dutch, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Swedish, Danish, Polish, and Arabic. Each language covers both halves of the theme: the storefront text your customers read, and the labels you read in the theme editor.
Arabic is right-to-left, and the whole theme mirrors for it: layout, navigation, drawers, carousels, and arrows. See Supported languages for the full list and Translations & internationalization for how to publish a language and edit its text.
Can I change the theme preset after installing?
Section titled “Can I change the theme preset after installing?”Lapels ships three presets: Lapels, Kaolin, and Damascene. You pick one when you add the theme from the Shopify Theme Store.
A preset is not a locked skin. It is a starting set of color schemes and fonts, which are ordinary theme settings, plus a starting homepage, which is ordinary sections. You can move an installed copy toward a different look by editing Theme settings → Colors and Theme settings → Typography.
If you would rather start over from another preset, add Lapels to your store a second time from the Theme Store and choose that preset there. The copy you have already configured stays in your theme library untouched.
Is Lapels only for menswear?
Section titled “Is Lapels only for menswear?”It is designed for menswear, and the details show it. Fit and swatch handling, a size chart section, materials and care, and shop-the-look and hotspot merchandising. None of that locks another catalog out. The menswear sections are just sections, so use the ones that fit what you sell and leave the rest out. See Selling menswear for what those features assume about a catalog.
Do I need to know code to use Lapels?
Section titled “Do I need to know code to use Lapels?”No. Everything in these docs is done in the theme editor with settings, sections, and blocks. If you do want to drop in code of your own, such as a tracking snippet, a widget or an embed, there is a Custom Liquid section and a Custom Liquid block. You can do it without editing theme files. See Custom Liquid.
Will my apps work with Lapels?
Section titled “Will my apps work with Lapels?”Yes, the normal Shopify way. Apps that offer them appear as app blocks you add from Add block → Apps, and Lapels accepts them nearly everywhere a block can go. That includes the product page and the featured product, along with the page templates, the cart, and most content sections. Apps that use an app embed are switched on under App embeds in the theme editor. Neither needs a theme-file edit, and neither is undone by a theme update.
Is Lapels accessible, and is it fast?
Section titled “Is Lapels accessible, and is it fast?”Lapels targets WCAG 2.1 AA. That means one heading per page, properly marked page regions, visible focus on every control, full keyboard operation, and touch targets of at least 24 × 24px. It honors a visitor’s reduced-motion preference whatever the Motion setting says.
Speed comes from the same discipline. Nothing is fetched from another company’s servers, each page carries only the sections on it, and images are sized for the device that asks for them. See Performance and accessibility.
Do you offer support, and how fast do you respond?
Section titled “Do you offer support, and how fast do you respond?”Yes. Support is available 24/7, and we usually answer theme-related questions and bug reports within 12 hours. Reach us through the Lapels support page, which attributes your message to Lapels automatically, or through the global contact page. Sending a short description of the issue, your store URL, and a screenshot helps us respond faster.
What is included in support, and what isn’t?
Section titled “What is included in support, and what isn’t?”Included: fixing confirmed bugs in the theme and answering questions about how Lapels’ built-in features and settings work.
Not included: custom development (new sections, bespoke layouts, or design changes beyond the theme’s settings) and third-party app integrations. These fall outside theme support, though we are happy to point you in the right direction where we can. We do not sell them as a paid add-on either. For work the theme’s settings do not cover, hire a Shopify Partner.
What is included costs nothing beyond the theme itself: there is no support tier to buy and no charge for a bug fix. See the support policy.
How do theme updates work, and are they free?
Section titled “How do theme updates work, and are they free?”Theme updates are free. When a new version of Lapels is released, you can install the latest version at any time from your Shopify admin. There is no additional charge. Notable changes in each release are recorded in the changelog. Before updating a live theme, we recommend duplicating it first so you can preview the new version and confirm your settings before publishing.
How do refunds work?
Section titled “How do refunds work?”Purchases and refunds for Lapels are handled by the Shopify Theme Store under Shopify’s policy, since that is where the theme is sold. If something in the theme isn’t working as it should, please contact us first. Most issues are bugs we can fix quickly, and we would rather get it working for you.
